itSMF - Ever changing Mobile Communications ? how to keep with it AND ITIL & eTOM ? a Project view for operational excellence
Attended another itSMF event this evening, this time on Mobile Communication solutions. It was hosted by TC2 (TechCalibre - http://www.techcaliber.com/home.php).
This was a particularly interesting talk, as I can still recall the challenges I faced when I was in the position of aligning telecommunication solutions across 8 countries in Asia.
Bridge Alliance was created for this very reason, although at the time it seemed to be more of an idea than a solution. I remember being told quite bluntly by a telco provider that "they did not have to provide a standardised data roaming service" although it was stated on the Bridge Alliance website (https://www.bridgealliance.com/)
In the end we opted for a local solution and had a 'travel blackberry' on standby at local offices for our travelling execs. And to be honest, it was the most cost effective solution.
TC2 expressed the same experience within Asia. Unless your organisation contains 10,000+ employees, there really is no motivation for the carriers to play-ball.
Hopefully in the months to come the Bridge Alliance will mature and offer a truly competitive solution for APAC travellers.
Note: The Bridge Alliance is a partnership of the leading telcos in Asia (although not all countries are represented, Vietnam springs back into my mind.....)
